urnament 2003
The 12th Annual Chess tournament was the largest ever with 49 players
in the open and 8 in the beginners and 6 novice players.  This  has
become the tournament to come to it seems for chess players in Minnesota
as it has grown into the largest one in the state over the summer
months.  The cream of the crop this year were three titled Masters who
along with 7 Experts set the pace for an exciting weekend of chess. It
is always good to see past Catfish Champions for 7 of the previous 11
tournaments return also.  The weather cooperated this year and we had a
very good potluck on Friday evening.  Being able to play chess will
bring out a few players but it is the people who bring them back. We
have a fun group of core players that return year after year but it is
also the people of Franklin and surounding towns where the players stay
and eat that welcome the players and bring them back each year.
The trophies were specially made by Wayne Miller of Franklin of Wood
Treasures
